Rep. Mace Introduces Bill to Support Veteran Families, Remove Arbitrary Time Limit on Tuition Benefits

Statement

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) on Thursday issued the following statement after introducing a bill to remove the 10-year time limit on college assistance for the families of fallen and disabled veterans:

"Our men and women in uniform make enormous sacrifices when they volunteer to serve our country. These are physical, emotional, and even financial sacrifices we can never hope to truly repay.

"One of the ways Congress and the American people chose to honor our veterans' sacrifices was by helping their families go to college if they were disabled or killed-in-action. Currently, if a veteran's family can't use this assistance within ten years, they can't use it at all.

"This is an arbitrary timeframe which burdens our military families. This is why Congress repealed a similar delimiting date for using the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Those veterans who were killed or disabled in the line of duty never shirked from their responsibilities, and neither should the federal government."
